Sam Salvati Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Here is a big 5160 chopper I made today, start to finish. Steel is 5160, with a parachord wrap over glued on leather slabs. Quote
keykeeper Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Sam, that is a very good looking piece. I love the way you leave the unground, as forged areas along the flats. Nice handle work as well. Should be a very good user blade! Quote
element Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Nice blade, looks functional. Are you going to make something so u can carry it on your belt or something? Would make a good outdoors knife id say. Quote
Flaming S Forge Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 That is one serious looking piece. Nice job. Quote
Sam Salvati Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Thanks guys! Element, I am gonna make a nice little belt sheath for it yes. Here's some more pictures of the handle wrap, sort of a take on japanese tsuka maki. Quote
element Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Ah "sheath", i couldn't spell it right last night lol. I knew id seen wraping like that before, thanks for the close up pics:) Quote
John Martin Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Excellent job Sam, really like it, any dimensions??? Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Is this what a Japanese Ork would carry? Nice looking in a rough looking way. Quote
Ferrous Beuler Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Yikes!!! Now atsa knoife! Beautiful work Sam. Why can't I shake the image of some prosecutor holding that up in a gallon ziplock bag in a courtroom somewhere? Quote
jimmy seale Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 you a very dangerous mutha indeed!!! well done, jimmy Quote
Sam Salvati Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 Finished!!! Started and finished the simple (VERY simple) sheath yesterday. it is comfortable, plain, and rides very nicely. Still need to get some leather tools, like that little one for recessing the stitches, and some simple stamps. in hand On hip I used synthetic sinew for the stitching which is AWESOME STUFF, and parachord for the leg lanyard. Comments and critique welcome. Quote
J Anderson R Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Looks awesome Sam, Ive found theres no such thing as a simple sheath, they all take work! Great Job Quote
element Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Lookin good! So thats what the rope is for heh, hold on to your leg. Im so blind sometimes, I have a rope like that on my kukri and i never new what it was for and i bought it 4 years ago for my bush knife..:p Quote
Sam Salvati Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 Thanks guys! Yup, keeps it from flopping about when you run, makes it a bit easier to wear, and if the fit in the sheath is a bit snug makes drawing it easier. Quote
strantor Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Yikes!!! Now atsa knoife! Beautiful work Sam. Why can't I shake the image of some prosecutor holding that up in a gallon ziplock bag in a courtroom somewhere? HAHA! that's great. It looks pretty scary! I like it. Quote
kasaino Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I really like it! nice work. The only thing I might have done different is bring the leather thats on the bottom of the handle together so it looks sealed/whole... Trying to give some critique, tough with this knife though! Quote
Quentin Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 nice job, i like the shape of the blade, and the sheath. good job. Quote
Messerist Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 You suck Sam! Start to finish in one day!!! Just kidding:D I like your sheath and ditto on the synthetic sinew. I use it alot...exclusively I should say. Way back when I thought about trying real sinew...Book of Buckskinning showed one how they could make it usable for stitching...like I said..."thought about it" You gotta hand it to those guys back then. Once again...you suck! LOL Quote
