R.C.Edmondson
I have seen thousands of spike knives over the internet and I know alot of them have different types of twists in the handle area, but I have not been able to locate information on how people do it differently, so lets start here, Which do you like the best and how do you do it? KYBOY
I often use a Cube twist like these top two have.. Then sometimes I just use a regular twist with groves like these.. I plan on trying a pineapple twist soon..

Iron City
Hope you don't mined if I jump in... what is the process to achieve the cube and pineapple twist?? I have seen different twists on knives but don't know exactly how to go about duplicating the look. If I am crossing any lines by asking trade secrets I apologize. JPH
Hello: I don't twist mine at all..just flatten it out, do a bit of shaping and then I do the blade. I think it gives a better "overall feel" to the blade when using it plus it allows for more "personalization" by the end user, like rawhide or wire rapping..tect.. Just my take on it..Then again I am usually the odd duck in the group.. JPH Edited November 27, 2008 by JPH
civilwarblacksmith
The last one I did I flattened the handle and put handle scales on.
Flaming S Forge
Here is a picture of a spike knife with a horsehead handle. It's displayed on a piece of branded barn wood with hand forged nails.

Flaming S Forge
I learned how to make horse heads from a tutorial over on anvilfire. I mainly used it for the end of handles on fire tools, forks & spoons. One day I was making spike knives and thought I would give it a try. I appreciate your kind words on the knife. happycat
This is a great thread as a friend wants a few spike knives for his shop. Looking at the hose head, I had an idea. Anyone ever see one with a dragon head? May have a new project for tomorrow. Ed
