Different kinds
I have been thinking about making a forge, but I wondered if I could use a pvc pipe to route air from a blower to the part where the fire is.
Different kinds
Would it melt?
jlpservicesinc
the PVC can be used, but not recommended for it to be directly connected to the forge tuyere. Ideally using it to supply air up to about 5ft and then switch over to metal.
BillyBones
Something like a dryer vent hose is what i have seen a lot of people use. I use 3" exhaust pipe with a "T" welded in.
Daswulf
I wouldn't use pvc unless it is only connecting the blower to the T pipe on a bottom blast forge or further back on a pipe on a side blast forge. Which are you building? I use 2" black pipe tor the T on my bottom blast forge. In some building or plumbing supply stores you can buy pre threaded sections to connect easily for the T. Other metal pipe could be used.
Different kinds
Ok. I might actually try to make a coffee/paint can forge with propane.
Daswulf
Ok, well that would be a different animal for a different topic.
Frosty
I think we're assuming you're making a solid fuel forge but . . . are you? On a solid fuel forge you can get away with plastic hose so long as there is a couple feet of steel between it and the firepot. Do NOT hang the hose below the firepot or unburned flammable gasses will collect in the hose waiting till you turn the blower on. If you're lucky it'll only pop but if much collects it can split the hose, and other wise damage things. Frosty The Lucky.
