JHCC
Hi, Fred; welcome to IFI! If you haven't yet, please read the READ THIS FIRST tab at the top of the page. Also, there's no need to bolden your text. If you could post a photo of your setup, that would make it easier to offer relevant suggestions. Daswulf
Dirt or clay. Have a picture of what you have? Sounds strange a champion forge in a wood box. Not that it can't work, just that I'm unsure what you are working with.
ThomasPowers
Is it a champion forge or just a champion firepot in a wooden box?
Fred Duke
It’s a whirlwind 400 in a wooden box I am going to rebuild the box. Thanks
Stash
I would suggest that you do your rebuild by setting the firepot into a steel table- maybe 3/16" or so, at least 24x 30". You can use thinner gauge for the table, but you will need support under neath- either angle or square tube. Then you can set all that in a wood box frame. As shown in your photo, you can just pack clay or dampened kitty litter between the pot and the wood box. If you want to stick with the wood box construction,, definitely make a box big enough so you have a reasonable sized table for the pot, your coal, and fire tools.
