Water_Operator 1
Are “slot jaw” tongs available commercially or must they be custom made? I saw a pair being used on one of Black Bear Forge’s demos and they looked to be handy for various shapes.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
A Google search brought up several places that have them, also called duck bill tongs. They are easy to make though. Posting links to commercial sites is not allowed though. Edited May 13, 2020 by Irondragon Forge & Clay add thought.

JHCC
Ken’s Custom Iron sells laser-cut blanks to make these. (Note: commercial links are forbidden, but it’s okay to mention companies by name.)
CrazyGoatLady
Coincidentally, I made a pair yesterday from Ken's Custom Iron. Took me a bit under 2 hours I think. Most of that time was filing and fiddling with fit. Most of the actual forging is drawing the reins and that even depends on how far you want to go with them as does filing.( I am a real stickler for details). I've not made them from scratch, but if you want a pair that's fairly easy and easy on the pocket book, it's a great option. I tried them out once I was done and they are a very versatile tong.
