CrazyGoatLady
That's very cool. I bet if it could talk, it would have a great story of it's history to tell. Do you have any clue about who made it?
HammerHeart
None at all, I know nothing about this hammer. It could possibly be the oldest thing in my shop....well the oldest looking : ) and I'd say it could tell some stories indeed.
CrazyGoatLady
I'd probably display it in my smithy. Great piece

pnut
Cool. Is it from the Red Rivet gorge area originally or at least as far as you know? Pnut
HammerHeart
I'm only 30 minutes from red River gorge so it could easily be. It definitely has a hardened face. A separate piece of steel. Also I like the crooked eye.
pnut
I know you're by RRG That's why I asked if you think it was made in your area it didn't the person you got it from bring it to your area from somewhere else. Do you know where they got it I guess would have been a good better question. Pnut
HammerHeart
Oh my apologies, and my father brought it to me one day without bringing a story with it haha. If im not mistaken I'll ask him again to make sure. It's been a couple of years : )
ThomasPowers
I have old 3 steeled wrought iron hammers; a claw hammer, a shoeing hammer and a double faced one I dug out of the mud from under a scrap pile at a scrap dealer's in England. They all get used from time to time.
pnut
No worries man, I bet that little guy built a lot of things in it's day. You can find stuff like that if you excavate old barn and shop sites. It's also pretty surprising what you can dig out of old privys besides the obvious. HammerHeart
Thomas id like to see those hammers sometime. And pnut thats very true Iv dug out some winners that's forsure. Every barn Iv worked on Iv always had me a peek. But I only take stuff from the barns we tear down. : ) Also Iv scored most of my tools from a local pawn shop. Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
When I saw the title, the Sorcerer's Apprentice came to mind. A hammer that jumps up and does all the work for ya. Definitely made by some long ago Smith and deserves a place of honor in the shop.
HammerHeart
I ain't checked out that movie, but a hammer that does everything for you would be....a striker? Yeah I believe so : ) and it definitely has a place in the shop. When people start talking the "old tools" talk I can't help but pull the old "have you ever seen a such?" It's gives me a good chat with the old timers. : )
pnut
It was the Mickey mouse segment in Fantasia where Mickey uses the wizards wand to try to do some magic to help him clean up the wizards lair and everything goes crazy. You've probably seen the pictures of Mickey mouse dressed up like a wizard. That's the movie it's from. When I was younger it was one of my favorite movies to watch when I was..... well I'll leave that up to your imagination. Pnut
