Found these two in a charity shop today, haven't read them so can't give a review right now but i'm sure my partner will only take a few days to blast through new books in the house so i will edit an update soon.

I'll have to look for them, my wife loves fantasy and those look really interesting.

It's from the Winter of the World series. There is at least one more in the series. I will post the name if I can find it when I get home. I really enjoyed them. 

That would be The Hammer of the Sun.

Thanks for the heads up.  I've read some of his other books in a different series (Spiral) and greatly enjoyed his prose.  I look forward to reading these.

This series is a must read for anyone with a real passion for smithcraft. I've read it twice now and probably will again. It's worth whatever Amazon is charging for it and then some

I love the thinking of Ray Bradbury. These are unique books with meaning and a sense of reality. My favorite book is Ice and Fire.

As in the series: "The Song of Ice and Fire"; or the Cookbook, "The Feast of Ice and Fire"; or a different one all together?
