Son of Ander
Hey Guys!! My name is Thomas and I'm from Southern Idaho. I found this place while researching how to get started with smithing. I have been around a few smiths a few times at living history events, and always had an interest in it. I have yet to swing a hammer myself but I am eager to learn everything that I can. Steve Shimanek
Hello Son of Ander, I am sure there must be a smithing group near you that can help you get started. Welcome.

Kozzy
Read, learn, and most of all, keep your eyes open for equipment. Heyburn/Burley/Rupert et al definitely have some hidden smithing gems in people's garages and barns...the trick is to tell everyone you cross paths with that you are looking and eventually you'll get a bite at the right price. You'll be banging iron sooner than you think. Great Great Grandpa is buried in Oakley just south of you..along with several spare wives he had. In that part of the country 140ish years ago, virtually every family came with a decent herd of wives
FlatLiner
"Decent herd of wives" I laughed so hard I nearly fell out of my chair. I also have great grandpas who had spare wives lol.
Frosty
Are you still with us Son of Ander? 2 posts in July then nothing. I'm hoping you found an anvil, forge, pile of tools and an old man who's teaching you the craft. Give us a shout and let us know you didn't get kidnapped by a sesqwatch or something.
