What does the stamping say?  I'd wonder if they were not bunion stretchers.

Gotcha thanks guys. It was something I noticed literally it was among about 20 tongs so I appreciate the information.

I've seen several with an open circle on one bit and the ball on the other---marked as blacksmithing tongs by "antique dealers" except in the 100 year old catalogs where they are shown as bunion stretchers for shoes. (eg: page 726 of the 1905 Sears Roebuck catalog has one with the ball and loop.)

Then I salute the person who invented them!  Probably kept around for Paul too.

(IIRC; like  that quote about Milton's Paradise Lost "None ever wished it longer!")

I am a 6”3 Big old softy when it comes to animals. I am also a realist so I get the purpose back in the day just still feel bad(especially when I saw the diagram of its usage).
