October 17, 20187 yr Well my teacher didnt like the idea of me doing traditional design for a project so I Knapped a Habaki....Pardon the Blurry Pic
October 17, 20187 yr I’m curious about what the assignment was. As a teacher I am curious to understand you teacher’s input.
October 17, 20187 yr I'm curious as to how you got such a smooth and even blade slot in a knap-able material. What material is it and how did you do that?
October 17, 20187 yr Looks like copper to me and so probably a "made to look knapped" instead of cat scratches or plain. Ever thought of doing a reticulated silver one?
October 17, 20187 yr Author Lou : Chances are she said it because it is a Art Class and she feels doing your own thing instead of traditional Designs.....that sort of thing....and the assignment was sweat soldering....thats what I didnt understand just a piece that was sweat soldered together, to me doing a traditional habaki design more than fit the bill..but its her show so..... Sfeile : It is Copper and it is a grinding technique. And to get it smooth after LOTS AND LOTS of hand sanding....I still have more to do tonight with the 1200 grit paper before turn in, and patience.... Thomas : depends on what you mean by reticulated....do you have an example? And yes I would love to do a silver one if I had the money for the silver stock...
October 17, 20187 yr Search on "reticulated silver" It's sort of a depletion gilding type of thing; but leaves very interesting textures on sterling.
October 17, 20187 yr Author Interesting, the copper to silver ratio is almost like Sibuichi which would make it even more interesting when you pantina it black.....
October 18, 20187 yr Author I know that, You know that, most people into it know that, but trying to explain it to people who know nothing about it.....
October 18, 20187 yr 20 hours ago, Lou L said: You shouldn’t tell your art teacher that all art is derivative! That's EXACTLY the kind of thing to tell art teachers. It really gets them going. Just not if they're YOUR art teacher. Frosty The Lucky.
October 19, 20187 yr It was a nice iPad typo! I intended to type “should”...the stupid iPad assumed I meant otherwise and added it without my noticing.
