DiggerDiggs Posted October 12, 2017 Share Posted October 12, 2017 Is it possible to use 1" black pipe rather than 3/4 for a propane burner? Would it not put out higher btu? Any drawbacks? Stevens Posted October 12, 2017 Share Posted October 12, 2017 If you go and read the burners 101 and the forges 101 sections you will see that you have to increase the length of the mixing tube, the size of the inlets and gas jet, and yes it will produce many more BTU's but not higher tempitures if the forge is properly sized for the burner. Sure, a 1" burner has 2x the area in the mixing tube and if properly tuned produces 2x the BTUs. Absolute temperature can't exceed that of an air propane torch. Frosty The Lucky.
