October 6, 20178 yr I have just had a go at making a viking shaped axe object its very rough needs the checks drawn out and only made from mild steel but Im happy it went mostly as planed I have just heat treated my cross pein hammers and will handle them tomorrow and have another couple of goes working on making the axe heads tidier and more finished. Ive been watching lots on youtube for technique It started out as a bit of 75x16 flat bar about 120 long, may even go really crazy and use something that will harden Cheers Beaver
October 6, 20178 yr Looking good so far. I like the way the eye looks in particular, nice and clean. Good work. Now you just have to weld in a high carbon bit and youre good to go.

November 17, 20178 yr Axe eyes were traditionally folded over and forge welded. Many modern makers do a punch and drift or slit and drift style to avoid the welding.
November 17, 20178 yr Nice clean eye, made my first axe also from mild steel only. Next stage is forge welding or an harder material (in my case 13 ChroMo) with quenching an heat treatment/annealing. Good luck
