Blacksmithing groups in Maine

Featured Replies

Couldn't get the link to work that lists all the groups nation wide, so I figured I'd post here and try to get some info.  Anyone know of any groups in Maine??

Thanks George and Glenn, got me pointed in the right direction!

NEB is active and engaged in Maine.  http://www.newenglandblacksmiths.org  Bob Menard or Nick Downing (both in Portland) would be your best bet for contacts.  Joel Tripp just did a great demo for NEB at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds back a few months, he's in Saco.  New England School of Metalworking (not affiliated with NEB except for a lot of membership crossover) is in Auburn and has a TON of stuff going on.

Try the Western Maine Blacksmith Assoc.

Glenn, I havn't heard anything active about the WMBA is years.  Old info about a defunct group or do you know something I don't?

Thanks Judson!  I'm actually heading over to MaineOxy soon to get some wire for my welder so I can repair the working face on an anvil I just picked up.

Do NOT weld on the face of your Fisher anvil.  You will ruin what you have.

Gotcha.  So what do I do if the damage starts to spread?  Any idea on how to tell if this was made before the Fisher move NJanvil?
