Junkyard find - Fly press

Japan Driers: I'd check that as I recall that Colbalt salts were the active ingredient for many of them; perhaps naptha is used as the carrier?

I got some boiled linseed oil form ebay so i am ready to give it a go. I am also a beekeeper and i have lots of bees wax...i could make a wax-raw linseed paste (1:7) and use that but i think i will stick with the boiled linseed oil.

Another issue  I used Moly-disulfide content grease to grease the screw an the sliding surfaces of my flypress. I read it on an old thread here in the forum. It feels sticky and the overall feeling of the press is slower than before when i was using oil, it even makes sticky sounds.

Kudzu: grease is likely too stiff.

Your press should be so free that from the raised position it spins down from gravity alone, if not restrained.

Use oil instead.

Agreed, dirt, grit, etc. sticks to grease and accelerates wear. Light oil lets grit and such to be pushed out of the way instead of holding it to be ground under. Make sense?
