I like that you attached it be curling the tip into a hinge point. Simple and effective. 

Folk have been going to the blacksmith with such functional request for centuries. Good job.

 

Spikes make good door knockers. I have sold a few made with a horseshoe as the back plate. The good ol' rail spike!

You went the wrong way, I was born in Vanburaine, grew up is So. Addison with a summer camp in Newfield and move to CT 30 years ago....2 more years and I'm heading even farther south to SC. Can do the cold anymore with my heart issues!
