Stormcrow
This fellow always has interesting videos. In this one, he uses stone age technology to build a forge blower and smelt a small amount of iron.
ThomasPowers
Lets see: this is the 4th time it's been posted here I believe.
Stormcrow
I haven't seen it. I scanned through this sub-forum first.
ThomasPowers
Note in that picture he needs more fiber in his bloomery to help prevent the cracking shown. We learned that making them by hand over the years.
Frosty
Sand would help as well. I keep visualizing a taller bloomery with the blower driven by a turbine over the stack, maybe a wind mill or water wheel. Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
Or the monsoon wind driven smelters of Ceylon/Sri Lanka?
Frosty
That works, all I need is a prevailing wind. Frosty The Lucky.
BlackMetalViking
I saw this one on the weekend, this dude is pretty awesome! I wish I had the time and the land to do what he does.
ThomasPowers
I was reading some of his other ones and he mentioned that one of the simpler huts took him 30 days of work spread over 6 months. I salute his persistence!
gote
An old Egyptian could easily have built a hangglider or a hot air ballon with the materials and tools available to him five thousand years ago but he did not know how. Our videomaker is using modern knowledge on ancient crafts. It is interesting to see what he can do as a modern Robinson. Let us hope that we will not be forced to emulate him.
