natenaaron
Ok. That makes sense
ausfire
I wear a left hand welding glove. Got a whole heap of right hand ones in great condition. (I see now you can buy a pair of 'lefties') The left hand glove allows you to hold steel that is warm enough to feel through the glove but uncomfortably hot in the bare hand. Makes for less dipping of the 'cold' end. Don't like a right hand glove. The hammer doesn't feel right through a glove and there's more danger of slipping. Visitors are not impressed with hammers flying around.

My teacher (Fred Christ in PA) had us wear gloves on the left hand but not the right, and a 30 year habit is hard to break. One of the nice things about welding gloves is that they are designed to pull off quickly in emergencies.
Latticino
I also like to wear a relatively thin Kevlar glove on my left hand (gas forge and tongs/stock heating issue, like Frosty). The only time I wear a glove on my right hand is when forging larger stock where the radiant heat coming from it starts to interfere with my appreciation for forging (I know, longer hammer handles, or less choking up is another solution, but then I find I sacrifice either hammer head mass or control). Each to his own.
