Fuzz557
Ok guys figures after I buy an anvil I stumble across five free ones. And a very cool old vice. If anyone knows what this stuff is that would be a big help. The first picture is a vice and an anvil in one. The only marking says patented and I can't make out the date. The anvil (if that's what it is) with the round sids and. Square center has no markings whatsoever. The smaller rusty one has a #8 under the horn. The vice is marked with Wilton on the side. Thanks for the help fellas!
SReynolds
Many punches and cutters were equipped with a handle. If it sorta looks like a hammer but you have question if it is . . . .then it isn't a hammer. Folks advertising these items on eBay describe them as hammers. You may have a flatter there. . .or possibly a set hammer?
Fuzz557
The reason I believe that it may be a type of anvil is because on one side of it, it is quite worked/used/dented from usage. Also, I haven't noticed any attachment or handle points. I guess I'm trying to figure out what it is so that I know best how to use it. I really appreciate the ideas that you came up with. Thanks
SReynolds
Likely used as "an anvil" for a specific task or somebody found it in a scrap yard and used it as such for nothing in particular. Looks like something from an excavator or dozer.
Nobody Special
Anvil/vise combos are usually hollow cast iron. Light work if that only. The anvil looks ASO ish, but may have a steel top. Test for rebound. Wilton's are popular, The bullet vises are VERY popular. And expensive.
Glenn
They also got the fancy version with all the bells and whistles.
BIGGUNDOCTOR
Looks like you have a couple of cobbler's hammers in the pile. The square with the round ends looks like an axle of some sort. The Wilton bullet vise will serve you well, but it looks like it has been welded on the jaws. Do not put the tall bicks into a hardy hole, that tapered bottom can split the heel like a splitting wedge.
Fuzz557
There are a few cobblers hammers they just look cool. The square with round ends could be no idea. My Wilton vice has bin welded but it still works and the price was right! Thank you for the heads up
Gazz
One of those is a blowhorn stake - it's the one with the long round taper and a sort of half cone on the other end. A silver smith or copper smith tool but useful in a iron shop as well.
