I Forge Iron

Made My First Tool Today

Recommended Posts

Started with a short length of 1/2" round stock. Tapered the handle end down to try to practice tapering, as I want to make some drifts and punches to eventually make my own hammers. Also tried a couple different ways of drawing out, and the edge of the big radius worked wonderfully for that...

Also got started making a knife from a Nicholson file I'd gotten that was broken to practice making knives. Still have a lot of work to do on it, but it is a start I suppose...

I just calls em like I sees em.

A point on the end of the rake is more useful than the extra handle if you need to choose. A coal fire doesn't really have flames and doesn't radiate heat like a camp fire so you don't need to stay back as far. Charcoal more so but not bad.

Good Morning, Mr. Ford

Anytime you make something useful and it works is a good thing. Especially when starting out.

First = Function, Second = Form. I'll bet this one is 100% better than your last one!!!

Form is making it technically or artisticly pleasing. That will come with time.

Welcome to the Family!!

Neil
