aametalmaster Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 If i would build another taper attachment i would use a rectangle bar for the sine bar instead of round bar as i did. The round bar is fine but i had some old wheels to run on it and making them would be a pain in the rear. I also have to remove the complete cross slide screw so the cross slide moves freely to follow the taper but thats only a 2 minute job...Bob More how to pics here>> southbend10k : SouthBendLathe10k and lathe projects. R W Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Some of the best HM accessories I've seen. Quote
OldIron49091 Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Well, I see some new toys to build for my own shop! I used a taper attachment at a machine shop I worked at, and have wished for one on my Clausing ever since. Your design looks easy to use and relitively easy to build. And the centre drill holder building a index plate is brilliant. Quote
aametalmaster Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 Here is another i did yesterday for the wife. She broke the handle on her el cheapo lint roller and wanted me to make one that wouldn't break. Enter the aluminum bar stock. It turned out so good i may go into production on them for gifts anyway. Now i can say dear thats why i have 4 metal lathes to keep you happy ..Bob Quote
Cross Pein Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 That is great, the next time I'm looking at lathes on ebay and the wife says " So you get this lathe and then what are you going to do with it?" Instead of my usual "I can think of a ton of things." answer - I'm coming back to this post. Back in the 1980's I worked in a machine shop running a Jones and Lamson turret lathe - wanted one ever since - so many tools so little time! Bill Quote
orgtwister Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 nice jobs on all your hm atachments i got make me one of those taper atachments Quote
Hunterbow Smithy Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Hi Bob, I have an old Granville "Senior" lathe I just bought and would love to incorporate a taper attachment. Also, do you have any thoughts or plans on how to make a threading dial or are they commercially available? Thanks, Chad Quote
aametalmaster Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 Chad, The taper attachment is the easy part. Unhooking your cross slide screw is the hard part. Because you want your cross slide to float along while being guided by the bar in the back thats set to the angle. How big is your leadscrew? (dia and TPI) because maybe one from ebay off another lathe would work. Quote
