Ridgewayforge
Hi, I am looking to buy this anvil, and I have never seen anything like it before. Its not the standard colonial anvil, and truth to be told, it almost looks like some smith back in the old days made it himself. Any ideas as to age? ThomasPowers
*ALL* old anvils were made by smiths. If the face is still hard and thick enough to use then it's an usable anvil; if a bit odd in shape. The very heavy heel is more often an indicator of a cast iron body; but those feet look forged (which can't be done with cast iron). Price looks a bit high; what is the weight on it? Ridgewayforge
I will be taking a look at it soon. I do not know the weight of it yet.Is there any probability that this is pre-1800's?
Everything Mac
Is there any probability that this is pre-1800's? I'd say quite possibly yes.
ThomasPowers
Small hardy and no pritchel generally indicates pre 1820's as would a smaller horn; but as this looks to be an odd one hard to say.
njanvilman
Obviously well used. Are you considering it as a user or an industrial artifact?
BIGGUNDOCTOR
Looks like more anvils in the pic, how are they compared to this one?
