mjfco Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Can someone ID this Anvil it looks cast with a steel face plate . Thanks Quote
wd&mlteach Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I have no idea what company made the top half of that anvil. But it sure looks like it was broken and then Welded to a plate. Quote
John McPherson Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Cast anvils would have lettering that stands proud, that is the top half of a wrought iron/steel face anvil. Picture is too low res to read any of the lettering. Quote
Black Frog Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Top half is a quite apparent Arm &Hammer logo. Must have broken at the waist and been welded to the plate. Quote
njanvilman Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Yes, Arm and Hammer. What Frog said up there. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Arm and hammer is considered a good brand and that anvil top looks to be in good using shape. A great beginner's anvil. I often suggest folks starting out look for anvils with damage as they sell far cheaper yet are still much better than a cast iron ASO Quote
mjfco Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 Thanks all I am just begining in this trade. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Well as long as you didn't pay "undamaged anvil" prices you done good---and if you did over pay run out and forge enough bottle openers and steak turners to cover the difference and relax! Quote
