njanvilman
Could you take and post separate photos of each anvil? Close up of each side will go a long way to helping you determine what you have. And do not wire wheel off the remnants of the paper label on the FISHER! Daniel S
That Fisher looks great. I would guess Peter Wright on the other one, but others had the steps on the feet too. If the marks are still faint after wire wheeling or brushing it, using ths flower dusting method helps a lot.
adam cyphers
First the fisher.with the exeption of surface rust, a dinged up horn tip and some chisel marks near the tip of the horn. she is pristine .no ring and the only marking is the paper label (which I have NOT touched) and the number stamp
njanvilman
Your FISHER anvil looks to be an eighty pounder. Probably made in the 1950's, hence no date and the paper label. Yes, it is in great shape.
ThomasPowers
Fishers don't ring. And a great anvil anyway. Particularly good for folks working with near neighbors. (I'd guess PW on the other one too)
adam cyphers
This is the other anvil.as you can see pretty abused.the last few pics are of a stamp 88 or 83 and the last some kind of indentation.rings like a bell
Daniel S
Seeing the parting line, it could be a Soderfors. Peter Wrights were forged not cast.
Black Frog
A few weeks ago I came across the same but larger. Cast with flats on the feet. Had many layers of paint and after a lengthy cleanup I could make out that it was a Swedish Sisco. Awesome anvil, I could not be happier with it. I can post pics of it tomorrow if you like. In AIA, Postman even mentions Sisco sometimes having only one handling hole. That Is my guess....
ThomasPowers
Save for the missing pritchel that anvil is not "pretty abused" the face is in excellent condition for an older anvil! I love buying anvils that are missing a bit but in great condition otherwise as they are often very cheap indeed and still very usable. Hauled my 125# Powell to the meeting yesterday---it's missing the heel totally but the face is hard and flat and the horn is usable too. Cost me US$40 for it or about US 30 cents a pound!
