Davor
I’ve put the pieces of copper pipes on the handles because I’ve just hammered it in on the tools, thought it might split the wood and it did, a little.
bigfootnampa
Pre drill and then heat the tangs a bit (low black heat) and they will melt their way into the sockets. The ferrules are still a good idea as they will help protect against the stresses of use!
Davor
I did pre drill, deliberately smaller holes, but I didn’t heat the tangs.
Paul Crosby
Nice! I like the design! It's one of my to do projects before the planting season starts
Frosty
Nice looking tools Davor Bigfoot has it right about fitting the handles. Burn the tangs in just short of bottom, let them cool then install the ferrules and lastly drive the tangs to bottom. The little extra the tangs have to go will help them wedge in and the ferrules will prevent splitting so everything stays tight and holds better. Oh yeah, a little epoxy glue before the final drive will REALLY stick the handles. Frosty The Lucky.
DSW
Nice Davor. The little trowel reminds me of the sheet metal trowel with riveted metal loop handle I made in shop class back in the 80's. I'll have to try and remember to look at my parents home next week when I'm there and see if it's still in the old garden shed or if it's gotten tossed in the last few years since I saw it last.
