March 5, 201412 yr Author Looks like I'll be keeping the shotgun as is. Thank you for the advise and talking me out of it. Cheers!
March 5, 201412 yr How about keeping it, including the stock, BUT, using the skills you have now and ones you'll learn along the way, get the wood and make your own stock and : Some engravings are dented or worn. ( I always intended on keeping engraved portions as a teaching aid in drawing scrolls and someday engrave.) Use these to add metal accents on the stock and now you've turned someone else's family's heirloom, which was on the brink of death, into an heirloom for your family. Keep the stock to preserve history, if that's important to you
March 5, 201412 yr Might look into "traditional" methods of stock repair to keep it looking "authentic"
March 7, 201412 yr After taking a look at the follow up pics it'd be a pure shame to scrap that gun. It appears to be repairable if not, trade with Ric! Frosty The Lucky.
March 8, 201412 yr Ric, what a fantastic offer. Truly a gentleman scholar, hoss! I can't speak for the quality of the barrels, but I would definitely be able to repair the rest. Before anything, I'd get it appraised for historical or financial value. It might not look like much, but you can never be too sure about an old weapon's story!
