May 26, 201313 yr I am more or less of a beginner and am looking for two pair of tongs that are the most versatile, and that fit my needs. I generally forge round and square rods that are 1/2 inch and under. What type of tong would handle these types of stock well? I get the impression that V-bit tongs and Wolf-jaw tongs are best for my applications. Any thoughts?
May 26, 201313 yr Centaur Forge Tom Tongs Wolf Jaw tongs are your best bet, maybe a pair of flat jaws too.
May 27, 201313 yr I would recommend a pair of poz tongs and one ferriers round flat jaw tongs. If I was to go back to just two pairs of tongs that would be them.
May 27, 201313 yr Make two pair of v-bit tongs. One for 1/4 to 3/8 and another 1/2 to 5/8. If you have to buy them get the small and medium wolf jaw.
May 27, 201313 yr I really like the 16" OCP chainmaker tongs for 1/2" round or square. They light to handle but grip very well.
