October 16, 201213 yr That's brilliant. Love that style handle. What's it called, and is there something on the site here that explains how to do it?
October 16, 201213 yr Gaz, I see you've done a gnarly looking pine-apple twist on the handle, which really suits the knife, but how have you done the blade? looks great...
October 20, 201213 yr Love it did you get the flint pattern from real chert or do you knap also as I do?
October 21, 201213 yr Google "blacksmith pineapple twist" the first result is a pretty good video. Great looking knife man! One of the neatest spike knives I've seen!
October 23, 201213 yr Now that's a RR spike knife worth the trouble! Very nicely done Garey, I know another bladesmith who does knapped look steel blades I'll PM you if you'd like to get in contact with him. Before I go on and get a good ramble going: Welcome aboard Garey, glad to have you! I've done a little knapping, Davis Cr. mahogany obsidian, like you'd know the outcrop. I haven't had much luck with local chert, I think it's going to need to be tempered but if you hit it hard enough it has good concoidal fracture patterns, long and straight. Obsidian is hard to find here and I don't know of any flint outside of Prince of Wales Isle. and that's a real bear to get at IF you can get one of the locals to show you. <Sigh> All in all, well done. Frosty The Lucky.
October 23, 201213 yr I'd love to hear how you got the chipped blade effect. Makes me want to make a RR Spike Dune inspired Crysknife. :D
October 23, 201213 yr Google "blacksmith pineapple twist" the first result is a pretty good video. Great looking knife man! One of the neatest spike knives I've seen! Thanks! That is a pretty clear and concise explanation, and looks easy enough that I might be able to pull it off. :)
October 23, 201213 yr anvilfire.com also has a good step-by-step. Go to the site and on the left you'll see iForge-How To. That'll bring up a long list of tutorials on how to make stuff. Number 11 "Twists" will show an easy to understand demo of how to make a Pineapple twist, among others.....
