pkrankow Posted August 3, 2012 Share Posted August 3, 2012 I feel your pain, large iron pipes are hard to find if you don't have a old style hardware store. If you can weld you can use exhaust pipe. You can also use thin wall fencepost, but have to pickle to remove the zinc first prior to welding. If you are stuck with galvanized, soak overnight in vinegar or for a few minutes in muriatic acid. For a brake drum forge you need at least 1 1/2 inch pipe (not very good) larger is better, 3 inch is best. Phil Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Glenn Posted August 4, 2012 Share Posted August 4, 2012 You can get black iron pipe (no galvanizing) in 3/4 inch or one inch and lay it horizontal across the drum.
