i would encourage you to go up a bit in size to 12x16 but build what you want.

12x12 will be a nice space to work in, having your stuff neat and organized will make the biggest difference.

Im building one too, taking lots of pics as I go and will post the build once its done hopefully in the next couple weeks. Its 15x30, concrete is poured but I haven't uploaded that pic yet.

My shed is 12x10, and while bigger would be nicer it's still plenty of room ATM. My shop consists of 4 beech poles, 2x4s and tin from Lowes and sided 1/2 half way with salvaged wood from an old barn. I've just wired up lights.

Before I built my shop/studio I was given this piece of advice; figure out how big you want....then DOUBLE IT! Trust me, you will out grow it quick! (mine is 30 x 40 and wish it was bigger!)

Shops are never big enough, if the space is there you will fill it with ease. I think the internal height is very important also for swinging lengths of steel & ventilation.

see that is somthing that i was having trouble with. my plans were to have 8 ten foot poles to hold everything. i was going to dig two feet with my post hole diggers and thn concrete everything when i get it level. you might be thinking that 8 foot is too short but i have measured my swing and 8 foot is tall enough. plus i will have 2 x 6's as my hadr boards. By the way my birthday is in about a month and a half. i will be turning 14 years old. so anyone that has any blacksmithing tools around birmingham, alabama feel free to pm me.

well i got it built. my anvil is in place, with the stump burried in the ground. it ended up being 8 x 8 but it feels big enough. im not going to have any of the power tools in it so it'll work. cant find my camera so no pics till i find it.

Sounds like you have a plan and plenty of ambition to keep it moving forward..."Good on you"
when you get a chance take a few pics and post them. Good Luck
