Woodsydad
I have good quality blacksmith coal but, what I am wondering is, should I screen the coal before using it? Some bags have quite a bit of fines in them.
Jerry W.
After I get my fire going good, I bank up the coal around to get it to coke up. I take the fines later and pour them around the outside and wet them down. It will coke up and burns well. With some of the coal that I have purchased, if I did not use the fines, I could have been down 1/4 bag. Around here, we pretty much have to take what we can get. ThomasPowers
The coal I get out here is all fines, I store it in a bucket of water and add it wet to the fire where it cokes up.

Is there a "shelf life" when storing the fines in water? I have about fifty pounds of fines. Actually fines is a bad way to put it, it's more like complete dust lol. Glenn
Coal fines and coal dust can be used as a forging punch lube.
