  1. Why not cut the nose off and drill and tap the end and make attachments. One of which would be the new tip. You could then make all kinds of fixtures to mount for different jobs. Stakes would be great with that much mass behind them.
  2. Cullman Forge is the closest to you. Meets on the 1st Sunday of the month at 9:00 AM at Peinhardt Farm in Cullman Forgemaster: Gary Kennamer (256) 247-0820 CullmanInfo@alaforge.org
  3. Find old wrought to use as filler material. You can also do this fill with a gas setup.
  4. The areas on Fedex is LTL (Less than a Truck Load) Freight. https://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/ltl?locale=en_US You need to know the freight class and NEVER pay list price for shipping. Discounts will be 60% or better typically. UPS also has a freight rate tool that does a default 60% discount. https://www.ups.com/uifs/create?loc=en_US&client=UIS&stcWarn=true (You will need an account) Also do not forget to add the weight of packing and pallet material. These can add almost 50lbs to a shipment. I like to use pallet wrap if you can get it becuase it helps make sure the stuff stays on the pallets All that said, just call these carriers Freight divisions and they are very glad to help out.
  5. I remembered these folks if you all are wanting replacement handles. http://www.tennesseehickoryproducts.com/productsHammers.shtml Dig around , they have a lot of handles.
  6. We call them lock washers. I bet that gets heavy !!

  9. Here is the rose I did for the meeting this month. This started out as a 1/2 inch x 18 Inch Round stock. Took about 10 different operations to get it into the rose. The length before it was rolled up was 34 inches. The project time on this rose was about 3 hours. We are doing a lot of good projects this year, so come on out and attend if you can !!!

  14. Turn your anvil stand around or you will be tripping over that leg. I would just line the bottom of that forge with thin fire brick. You may also want to consider rotating everything 90 degrees and have your forge out in the middle of the space with the window to the right. This will let you pass long items through the forge and also keep you from messing up that paint on the tin. You will want a hood and I would straight stack it right out the top of the shop. http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/30377-is-my-hood-to-tall/#entry311145 You could do it like this with or without a side draft intake Or like these in the pics (follow Lyle's link) http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/27902-sue-and-elise-first-day-at-brians/#entry283989
  15. Here is mine based on Brian's style. I saw another cool one a week ago that is a thick walled square tube tall enough for the vice. A piece of plate welded to the top about 12x12 with a tool rack made of rebar. The plate is off set so that one side of the plate is even with the edge of the tube. I think the tube was 5 or 6 inch square. The post vise was mounted right next to the main post. The post had two lawnmower sized (I am sure hand truck wheels would work also) numatic wheels so when tipped it would roll like hand trucks. It had a thick (3/8 to 1/2) inch piece of checker plate welded to the bottom (about 24x36) of the stand that the foot of the vise sat on and you stand on while using the vise. It was very stable. I will see if I can get some pictures. I know this is one of my most used tools when out going to workshops.

  19. Can you post some pictures? A lot of these blowers have pins that hold the shafts and set screws.
  20. Best thing to do is leave it alone if it turns. The shaft rides in a bushing and has to be pressed out and may have a pin holding it in. If you do not now what your doing or have a press, you will bust the case. Flush out the case , you wont paint that part anyway. Then just re assemble it. http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/18101-champion-lancaster-40-forge-blower-restoration/ That thread may help you some.
  21. Let me see if I can find someone for you. What alaforge group are you trying to contact? Bay or Wiregrass?
  22. Man I want one of those !!! I half keep watch out for one at times. That is a nice setup!!!!
