divermike Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 does anyone have a good plan for an air gate slide control? when I set up my forge a few years ago, I made one, quick and dirty, but it's truly a piece of crap. I would like to make a nice one, so if you have plans, could ya shoot em to me? Thanks. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I just scavenge them from commercial equipment at the scrap yard Quote
brian robertson Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 You can fund some nice ones, 3" & 4" round, on the internet for about $15. Quote
Ten Hammers Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Maybe the picture will make the trip. This was made from a scrapped cylinder tube, The wall is I THINK 1/8". Chopsawed almost through and made the gate from a piece of 12 or 10 guage. The rest should be self explanatory. The blower in the pic is of course not all it should be but it worked until I got the proper one. I even hooked up a shop vac to the gate for grins. Regardless, your source of pipe to go to the tuyere will decide the gate size. I just use 3" vent pipe and adjustable elbows.BTW the stand is made from some seamless tubing I cabbaged on to that fits nice. Adjustable height is nice. Quote
John B Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Here is another alternative, sorry but I can't get more pictures to upload Quote
pkrankow Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Here is another alternative, sorry but I can't get more pictures to upload I have seen this made from duct thickness galv. sheet metal. You can also use a dust collector gate. (gust some googling here)http://www.blastgateco.com/Blast-Gates.phphttp://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=16959&site=ROCKLERhttp://www.woodcraft.com/Search2/Search.aspx?query=gate (I have bought other stuff from Woodcraft, and would happily deal with them again) Phil Quote
divermike Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Thanks for the responses guys, looks like the first one I made was not as far off as I thought, still needs to be replaced though. Quote
