Randy478
Anybody got any ideas for christmas stocking hangers? Pictures would be great. I need to make 4 for my daughters fireplace mantel. Something decorative, but simple. All help is appreciated. Thanks, Randy
pkrankow
Think of an S-hook, but put a long loop at the top that lays flat on the mantle and can have a weight, some type of decorative item like a pillar candle or small sculpture on the mantle. I made nails and drove them in permanent-like because I have a barn beam mantle. Phil
dablacksmith
most of them dont seem to be safe to me... i would make one using a piece of strap that lays on top of mantle .. make it long and rivet hooks that hang over ... add weight to keep the whole thing from falling over if the stuff in the stockings get heavy...good luck
Marksnagel
I am going to make mine to rest on the top of the mantle and hang over. Large candles will provide enough weight to hold it in place. I need a stocking that will hold plenty of coal!
Steve McCarthy
There used to be a blueprint by John Bennett on exactly this. Maybe John could post a picture.
Hayden H
If its a mantel that stick out you could make a rig that goes from one end to the other and catches onto the base and uses leverage to hold it on
Anthony A
I made some with a tree at the top of the hook and textured the tree with a ball peen. Sorry, no pictures yet.

John McPherson
See, this is why I steal this stuff from the web archive these great ideas on my hard drive for posterity. I have lost count of the websites and forums that have disappeared, and some stuff does not even show up in the wayback machine, especially photos. Randy478
Thanks John those are cool too. I like the first set best, just don't know if my skill level is up enough to make the trees. Randy
pkrankow
Trees *LOOK* easy, tapered, flattened, chiseled...Might have to try those myself. Phil
