WmHorus
I've been working on a rather oversized Katana for some time now, given my limitations it takes me a while to work on things. Please bear in mind it is still rough and is a WIP. The overall length is 3' 11 ", and the blade obviously is the 3 foot section. I am still working as best I can as much as I can on refining it but...its slow since I am hand filing as I was taught.
Steve Shimanek
That IS a big one....you have a lot of filing to do, looks like you have it well in hand. Nice one! Please add more photos as you progress on the project.
JPH
Wm: Oversize?? Oversize for who?? Not me...I prefer a blade length between 34" to 36"...then again with my ape arms (I have callouses on my knuckles from where they rub the curbs when I cross the street)... Looks good so far to me...One of these days I wil post my No-Dachi...42 1/2" nagasa, kobuse 1060 with a WI core..THAT ^%@!!@@!! puppy was a real PITA...don't ask me how much work I ruined trying to get one that worked...all I will say is A LOT.... Keep it up...looking good so far to me.. Boy you kids coming up today have us olde farts beat when it comes to the amount of information available today when compared to what was (or should I say what WASN'T..??) available to "my generation" when I was a tad, wee yonker.... WmHorus
Thank you guys, its just slow going being subject to the whims of weather working outside, but I just picked up a 12 inch file, so hopefully that will go faster now, I was using a small 8 inch one. Yea even at 6'4 its a touch long for me That must be some wwork you did, I haven't gotten brave enough yet to Sammich steel yet....itll be in the future though. WmHorus
It got side tracked for a while then I got back to filing on it a couple weeks ago, then I noticed there is a nice bend and twist in the end that I gotta remove, probably will stick it back in the fire to fix then start the filing all over again, its a process and steve knows it I mean ya I could the filing with a hand grinder but it just doesnt feel right so....probably fire it again this weekend and try and fix it and go back to filing.
