drophammer Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I am looking at a few classes on blacksmithing. I was wondering if anyone has gone to the turley school and could recommend it. Quote
David Einhorn Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 While I have not been there, I have heard of him very highly spoken of. Quote
divermike Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 He comes highly recommended, and he also is an author!! Wish I had time and money to sit at his feet, I'd be there! Quote
Frank Turley Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 My classes are so good, I wish I could take them myself! Frank Turley Quote
ThomasPowers Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Turley's school has a world wide reputation as being one of the best and most intense schools out there. I have not talked with anyone who has taken his classes who thought he could have done better! (Having been smithing for over 30 years now and currently living in NM and having served as President of the NM ABANA Affiliate I have talked to a large number of folks who have attended!) I would only reiterate that his classes are for those *serious* to learn the craft! Quote
Old N Rusty Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 i have been banging hot iron for over thirty years and am eager to go to mr. Turleys school, if only to see the mistakes i have taught myself, and a graduate of his school is a learned smith, something i cannot claim now. Quote
yesteryearforge Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 There are ( i believe ) two spots open in a class that he is teaching at The YesterYear School of Blacksmithing here in Virginia from May 19th thru the 22nd. http://www.yesteryearschool.com Quote
urnesBeast Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I recommend Brian Brazeal for private lessons. He can be found on here. They are individual lessons from an excellent blacksmith at a *very* reasonable price. I spent two weeks with Brian last summer, and am already thinking about when my next session will be. Quote
drophammer Posted February 25, 2011 Author Posted February 25, 2011 Thanks to all for the feedback! Thank you to mr turley for responding. I have one of your brouchers. I have been welding for a living for around 20 years and can say that blacksmithing is a different animal and i look forward to learning Quote
