Seamus
I know anvil prices are climbing, but this is INSANEeBay: 30 lb. Anvil Kohlswa Sweden (item 200044129477 end time Nov-07-06 09:00:00 PST) or the seller thinks someones willing to pay that for a "collectable". Mr Smith
I wouldn't pay *that* much! My first thought was "they left a zero off - it should be 300lb!", but no :)
Thomas Dean
At 11:38 Central time still no bids....DUH!!!! I paid $60.00 for a 105# Hay Budden, $100--146#PW, $50--125#Acme, $325--185# Hay Budden. I have 3 other anvils that I paid less than $100 total. They are out there, keep looking. Ebay anvils would be a LAST resort for me.
ThomasPowers
I was recenty *given* a swedish cast steel 61# anvil that I passed on to the local college metal arts classes, it was in such good condition I suggested that they polish it and only work sterling silver on it. E-Bay is way down on my list too.
henerythe8th
Check out the sellers feedback. It's good, but the first item showing is a 106# Hay Budden with a single bid for $500! Nice anvil, but it's not made of silver or GOLD! H
Alan DuBoff
Something fishy about that seller...there's a prison lock he sold for $350, let's get real... The Hay-Budden had one bid. This has no bids right now. Who's to say if a friend of his agrees to bid on it. Caveat Emptor! Kudos to TP, at least that anvil went to a local school that you passed on, and will get good use as such, rather than rippin' some buyer a new one... Getting tougher and tougher to get decent stuff on ebay these days...everyone thinking their stuff is worth a fortune...kinda like the antique stores that plague Northern California, old hand planes for $40 because they're old...blacksmith tongs for $35 for the same reason, because they're old...many of the sellers have no clue what the tool does or what the real value is, just that it's OLD. Most smiths are no stranger to old tools, afterall...:p
Frosty
Gee, that Kolswa seems like a deal compared to this one.eBay: Rare Blacksmith Rifle Makers Anvil (very early ) (item 230045750554 end time Nov-05-06 17:25:08 PST) Frosty
Nick
Not a chance it's worth that much, unless it comes with a set of solid gold hary tools.
Woody
I bought a 97 lb Wilkenson for $150, roughly $1.50 a lb This one is priced as $23 and change a lb. Seems to me that you should be able to find a much bigger anvil and a much more reasonable price. Woody
Sam Salvati
It does look completelt unused whatsoever.
Shane Stegmeier
He would probably try to gouge you on shipping too since he is practically phishing. At that price you could buy a really nice anvil for 4-6$/# and get something a useful size... You 'Can' get good deals on eBay, but there are an aweful lot of lyers and crooks, be carefull. You are much better off getting involved with a BS organization and finding a "Finder" the guys like Thomas who can without fail find anvils for less than a dollar a pound, and buy from them... Alan DuBoff
It does look completelt unused whatsoever.Evidentally the seller didn't have time to use it, with all the time it takes to smoke crack and all... To me, even if I was to put a high figure on it, I'd toss a $200 value for myself. If he gets a bid for $700, either it's his buddy or he better real that catch of the day in. :p
