quad state

Featured Replies

anyone going to quad state this year?

I'll be there!

I plan on going for the whole weekend. I will probably have to take off Friday to make the trip, but I plan on being there for everything I can I can get in.

I will most likely be just observing, and buying, and learning as much as possible.

Jeff

I plan to drive in from NM for it. Hope to arrive Thursday and camp with the junkyard/forgemagic/farwestforge crowd.

Was planning on it ... but something has come up.
Oh well, there's always next year.

Oh yeah, I will be camping in the primitive camping area. Since there probably no trees for my hammock, I guess I'll be sleeping on the ground. Look for the Don't tread on me flag! That's where I'll be.

Quad-State can range from HOT! to COLD! (one year I had ice on my water bucket in the morning and wore a pair of army surplus wool overpants over my jeans) to WET!

I would spring for a cheap camping cot over sleeping on the ground just in case we have a wet year...

Primitive camping has trees but not ones spaced for hammock duty, (and they go fast!) If you don't like dogs barking at night ear plugs are suggested.

I do have a cot, I still consider that ground camping. I camp year round so I come prepared for all sorts of weather. Thanks for the heads up though. Hopefully I can bring my son as well. We'll see though as he will be starting his fall semester at the local college on the 20th. I am really looking forward to this.

If you're talking about the Quadstate in Troy, OH next weekend I'll be going. I'm not a blacksmith, just would like to start learning the craft and figure the event would be well worth it. Anyone know what I should look for or recommend anything when I'm there?

I'll be going, and this is my first year there, so I'm pretty psyched! I'd love to meet up with some of you.

is there anything I should know before I go?

Lastly, I know it's an open tailgate selling/swap meet, for blacksmithing tools, would it be appropriate to bring my 1903 barnes metal lathe? (6' bed by 14" swing) as I'm looking to sell or swap it...

Thanks,

Aaron

I'll be coming in from East Central Illinois on Friday afternoon. Bringing my Dad again this year as well. We'll be camping in my little RV in the electric area. Looking forward to learning a few things and soaking in as much blacksmithing as possible. Work has been pretty hectic over the last few months and I haven't gotten much shop time in. This should be a nice repreive.
