Clarence Lester Six was a lifelong resident of Hancock County, WV and attended Washington School and Wells High School, in Newell. He left school in 1943 to enlist in the Navy during World War II. He served aboard The LSM 124 in the Pacific Theater of Battle. After his discharge in 1946, he worked at Crucible Steel in Midland, PA, as a millwright for 35 years. He was also a skilled independent welder. Never one to stop learning, he earned degrees in machine shop training from 1983 to1986 and his high school diploma at J. D. Rockefeller Voc. Tech. School, in 2001. He also was an avid reader, an expert gardener, and an accomplished blacksmith. He turned his love of the hammer and anvil into and art, and his creations will be forever a tribute to him and his talent. Volunteering and helping others was an essential part of Lester's life. He spent many cold winter nights thawing water pipes and plowing snow so family and friends' could continue with everyday life. He also gave his time freely to mission work in Peru and Mexico, Habitat for Humanity, and ongoing church repairs and remodeling.
