Uncle Levi
Does anyone know where I might be able to get an advance arm for a Champion post drill or has anyone ever made one? It's the arm that lowers the drill bit as you turn the chuck wheel.
keykeeper
I don't know about buying the parts, but if your drill is close to the one I have, I can take it off and send pics of it and measurements, if you like. My drill is a larger one, no numbers I can find on it though. It has the advance arm that works on a cam on the crank shaft.
Uncle Levi
That would be great Keykeeper. I'm not sure you would have to go to the trouble of taking it off or measuring it, but If I could just get a good picture of one especially one on the drill so I can see how it mounts and fits to the cam, etc.I'm sure I could make one pretty easily. This post drill is like brand new otherwise. Anything you could send will help a bunch. Thanks. Levi
keykeeper
No problem. I'm at work right now, so I'll get some pics this evening and send them your way. Use the private messages in the forum, and send me your email address. It will be easier to send them using regular email.
keykeeper
Here's various pics for you. The arm operates with a small wheel at the end, that travels around the cam on the crank shaft. The adjustment portion is wider, to allow for a spring to hold tension on the arm. This setup limits the amount of travel of the arm, which sets the advance speed. The throw lever is simply mounted on a small pin, so you can throw it out if desired. The whole arm is mounted on the press by a bolt, which can be seen in the first pic between the cam end and adjustment screw. Hope this helps. rthibeau
it's your civic duty to give tools a home whenever you get the chance......:)
Ferrous Beuler
do you guys actually use your post drills? I have a chance to get one but not sure if its worth it. My shop has no electricity so yes, a post drill is the way to go. Plus old timey blacksmithing equipment has a cool factor of 10.
keykeeper
Wow, those pics I took back then really stunk. I still have that drill, and another just like it. Thibeau is correct, anyone caught not giving cool old blacksmith tools a home immediately shall be flogged publicly.:D
element
I wouldnt want to get flogged Ive already seen the drill, It was just lying on the ground motionless ,lifeless, greaseless and even seperated from its flywheel which was freezing outside:( Its my duty to bring this lost tool back to life and start feeding it some metal shavings. GMCPASO
Looking for a place to get the bits sharpened. Any ideas. I am in California. Also, where can I find additional post drills that may be for saw. GMCPASOred4041@charter.net

If you don't know how to sharpen yourself I'm sure there is a sharpening service that will be happy to. Frosty
