aablades
This is my first hawk forged from a 8-10oz ball peen hammer ($1 at a junk shop). Thought I would start small and work my way up.
Dave Parker
Very nice, it would make a good presentation piece.
aablades
I plan to "age" it, heat treat it and blue it. I've got some nice fiddleback maple for the handle.
KYBOY
Good job. Looks real good for that size hammer. The bleach and cold blue method works very well for an aged patina.

tech413
Looks Great!!! Can't wait to see it done. I've got all kinds of ball peens kicking around, never thought of making a hawk with them. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot. Adam

aablades
Looks great. Be sure to post pics of it when it is hafted. Here is the follow up on this little ball peen hawk. Heat treated, aged, and put on a piece of curly maple. Turned out good for a first attempt.
ThomasPowers
I have both hawk-eye and hammer-eye drifts but prefer the hammer-eye one for small axes I'm going to be using---easier to find cheaper handles. Hawk-eye still works for throwers as you can save the handle by having it pop loose in a bad throw...(always have a loaner hawk anyway so some "friend" doesn't break your good handle right before you need it for a contest...) Like having a "loaner" tentstake hammer; was camping once and went off to the can and when I cam back someone had "borrowed" my mirror polished silver smithing hammer to drive ratty old tentstakes with...
