A notable pen absconder went to the stationary supply and bought an entire box of pens and put it by the console so he would always have a pen to hand and never steal one of mine! I actually made something similar to that, but smaller for a pen that my co-workers kept stealing--a large piece of aluminum tied with a string to the pen.
