ThomasPowers Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Pretty common autobody (fender) hammer, I have a couple we use for armour making. Quote
Frosty Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 A sheet metal hammer, I have several though not just like it. Frosty Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 That's a nice one. I have a small version of that and like the others have said they are mostly or were used for auto body work. Now all the bodymen do is replace the sheet metal parts. Not much use to a bodyman these days unless he dose restoration on the old cars. Quote
thecelticforge Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I have seen coopers use em too. Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 You know that one shown with the big head would be a nice addition to a cauldron or still maker. Quote
Sam Thompson Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 That explains it! I absolutely hate sheet metal work. Quote
arftist Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I always thought those type of hammers were actualy called armorer's hammers, but aparentlu no one else uses that term. Quote
Frosty Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 I'd be surprised if they weren't known as armorers hammers back in the day. There's really no difference between hammering out armor or body parts. Frosty Quote

Any ideas?CAST IRON ANVIL WITH STAND AND HAMMERS on eBay (end time 23-Sep-09 21:06:53 BST) Look like planishing or auto body hammers to me. I've got a few in my collection. They come in handy sometimes Quote
