AndrewOC
I picked up this cute but abused anvil a few years ago and can't decide what type of heel to make to repair it. I have access to my old tech college 3cwt Massey, so can make the piece. It currently weighs 9.7kg / 21lb+ So what does everyone think? Flat horn Euro style, traditional London pattern heel or something wonderous? looking forward to ideas! Andrew O'C
David Einhorn
If you are going to put in the time and effort, make something wondrous, such as a dragon with head, shoulders and two arms pulling itself out of the back of the anvil. :D
AndrewOC
Hmm, that is certainly wonderous Holding hardie tools in its mouth? Andrew
David Einhorn
Holding hardie tools in its mouth? Andrew If you need a hardie holder for the anvil, maybe the claw. After all, dragons have their dignity, and dragons don't have time to hold hardies when they are trying to escape from an anvil. :D
ThomasPowers
Double horned Swedish pattern where both horns are stepped down from the face.
Frosty
If you're going to put a horn on it how about a ram's horn? I gotta say I like the self birthing dragon myself. Anvil = dragon's egg. What a great new blacksmithing myth! Frosty
AndrewOC
Hey Thomas! I'm curious to know what the advantage is for having a step down to both horns? Round shoulder for bending block on one? the dragon idea sounds great, but i think i'll dodge being a sculptor on this one! regards Andrew O'C
kasper
Dont do a thing, she fine the way she is and would make a great book end.
ThomasPowers
Well it's nice being able to hold your piece longways across the face and still have your tongs not interfering. Using the step for bends is a common method. I used to do that to curl the body of rasptlesnakes before I rigged a swage to do that in. firegnome
While the dragon crawling out was cool how about one trying to crawl in body , tail and rear legs and claws then you could add some scales to the underside of the horn and 2 eyes like it is stretching it's nose into the horn. David Einhorn
Or you could weld it to a back end of an anvil offered on EBay. Back End of Anvil - eBay (item 370247884824 end time Aug-31-09 04:50:00 PDT) But I still like the idea of forging a dragon pulling itself out of the back. What have you decided? kashmire
the idea of a dragon crawling out of an anvil sounds really cool for a tattoo... "I'm going to have to draw that up...." sounds like a nice piece for my arm possibly my calf... hmm... choices?!?!?!?!
