markb
What kind of finish? Bare metal ,patina with age? I assume it's in a park? Able to touch and feel. I love the simple shape although i doubt it was easy to create, a beautiful piece. Please tell us more about it. Mark

Mike Ameling
I assume some type of cement base set down in the ground. How did you attach the ring to the base? Through bolts? Flanges attached on the sides? I learned a long time ago to NEVER underestimate the power of a dozen "motivated" kids - even with a 1 ton boulder setting on/in the ground! I kind of shudder to think what they might have been able to do with a few ... tools! And it wasn't even malicious vandalism - just a spur-of-the-moment thought. Mikey - that grumpy ol' German blacksmith out in the Hinterlands

Mikey - that grumpy ol' German blacksmith out in the Hinterlands thanks for the question !! we poured a reinforced block of concrete 36x36x36 with four hollow vertical tubes. the sculpture has four 1.5 inch tubes in the bottom going up to the inner ring with internal supports. once on site i welded four steel bars into the the tubes in the sculpture. the tubes in the concrete based were then filled with cement-all ( 9000psi dry pack) and the piece lowered down......... the enginner i talked with said the biggest load could be seismic but kids could rival it :(
