Steve Sells Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 wait on a previous post frosty, you said that everything we smiths use is either hot heavy sharp or dangerous. i disagree on only have a 110lb anvil set up and a 3 and 4lb hammer, plus a vise grip saftey glasses an apron and welding gloves. none of the above is all that heavy. you know just a thought. If you don't think any of these apply, you should stop smithing and read a LOT more before you continue. Most ALL you list is dangerous, if you don't believe that they can be, you are delusional, and WILL get hurt. Please work safe. Quote
John Martin Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 a 3lb hammer can come flying back up at your face at a scary speed, and you might not have much of a face left. why did that happen? you missed the hot piece and hit your anvil. or the hammer head flew off. (the later shouldn't happen) Quote
Frosty Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 (edited) Jr: Making specious comments to try and sound smart isn't going to get you much respect here or any time in life. Most folk will let a certain amount slide because you're a kid but only a certain amount. If you actually believe hammers and an anvil aren't dangerous you need to find something else to do because you do NOT have enough sense to mess with dangerous things. Before you cite me again be sure it isn't to be a smart Alec. Try showing a little respect. Sincerely Frosty Edited April 12, 2009 by Frosty Quote
new guy Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 (edited) ok sorrry to be a *****. but i define heavy as hard to move with one person. although any of the above dropped on my foot or hit me in th eface would hurt. definatley alot more than a flying rr spike (that hurts too). and yes i learned the hard way not to miss. i put bolt threads in my finger and now it looks like someone has drawn lines on my knickels. so yes i am attempting to be safe. and dangerous is kind of a guarentee with a very hot fire around, i think.
