  1. Hello, I'm new here out of curiosity about an anvil I picked up. A knowledgable friend says it's a Columbian so I'm just looking for second opinions and more info. I would guess it weighs about 30 or 40 lbs. I found a few pictures of similar looking anvils but none with the "S" mark on the side opposite the triangle C mark. So I'm wondering - is it a "real" anvil (as opposed to a cast iron shape) and if so, what types of work was it meant for? It's next to a 10" wide woodworking vise in one of the pictures for size reference. Thanks
  2. Picked up these two bench vises when I bought my anvil. The Columbian is pretty self explanatory and I feel like $25 wasn't a bad price. As for the other, I can't find a mark or stamp or raised casting on it anywhere! Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!
  3. Well hello again all, I just got a lead on a, from what looks to be, pristine (from pic) Columbian anvil close to me. Not sure on the weight but I am guessing around 200ish? The dimensions are 27.75" x 11" x 4.75" ish. Based on the rough calculator of L * H - 110 = M, that puts it around about 195ish give or take. He is asking for $450. Might be able to get it for a bit less. I know these are cast steel and have heard they are great anvils. From the pic, this looks decent. I am driving by his house tomorrow and was thinking of stopping and checking it out. Is this worth the trip/effor
  4. I found this USA made columbian leg vise at a garage sale. I paid 25 CDN$ for it and it functions beautifully. A little bit of wear on the jaws but that aside I'm looking forward to cleaning it up and mounting it in my shop!
  5. Took my sister on her first Anvil hunt she found me a little Columbian, she always had I eye for silver.
  6. So I am currently living in Hawaii and decided to get into knife making. I started to look around for an anvil and to my surprise found this one on c list. The guy I got it from said he found it in a ravine behind a stable out here. It was rusty and he tried cleaning it with coke and a wire brush. I got it for $100 took it back to my place and cleaned it up some more to try to identify it. I found an upside down triangle with what looks to be a degraded C in it on one side and an M on the other. This leads me to believe it is a Columbian Anvil from Cleveland OH. Was it worth the price I paid?
