what does it mean about the metal composition when an anvil description states the horn is for use with hot metal only

lol!! yes i realized that this group would understand .. i can still ride and gallop horses with my knee,, just not drive,, so i will kept it a while longer,, my knee is why i am going to experiment with seated forging,, lol!! i will go the the tailgate now!! okay, i will post in tail gating .. that might be the best way to go.. but in the mean time i will figure out what really need.. lol!!!

i have access to someone that could drill a second hole,, i think.. lol!! i will get a photo of my borrowed anvil today.. is it not huge but it works well for me,, the log is too tall for me and moves some, i was going to cut it off and then decided to find my own and set it up just for me,,, i am decidedly shorter than the average bear lol!! what is the tail gate section?? that sounds like a great idea!!!

there is a tfs about 3 hrs away.. .. sadly. i am kinda a prisoner because of a bad knee.. only fix is replacement and that would limit some of my horse training methods, most of my friends are still working at real jobs ,, lol!! so no chauffeurs available i have just started looking for my own anvil, using a farrier friend's right now, he thought he was done, lol! but it starting to miss working metal,, so i decided i need to find one of my own .. i will look at the online suppliers thanks,, i used to drive to all over the place but no more.. it is frustrating as hell but you have to live with what your betraying body leaves you . good idea!! a scratch and dent on anvils,,, too funny!! i have access to someone that could drill a second hole,, i think.. lol!!

the anvil i am using now has 2 pritchel holes.. i like that.. what brand has that.. it is about 100 bs

how much cheaper?? where do i buy a new anvil?? never thought about one,, i saw one with an aluminum base but that didn't make sense to me,, i looked at centaur forge. they have quite a few options,,

i can't pay 1000.00 just wanted to know if it was worth it or what it is worth... he knows nothing about it,, it was his father in laws.. it is not staged so i am guessing it mounted in the hardy hole.. the blacksmith that used it has moved on to greener pastures so no way to get any info,,, they seem to run high around here... and not many around . if i could drive to Oklahoma or arkansas ..they are so much cheaper there.. lol!! i used to go up there all the time for horse and chicken shows but i can't make that drive anymore,, TWISTEDWILLOW.. you might have to do mercy run to texas.. lol!!! i am going to see it tuesday.. it is the first anvil i have found near me so i can make the drive, bad knee prevents long trips,, will have an update then

morning!! found this anvil and vise near me,, it is worth buying?? there are no close ups of the anvil top,, it looks rough to me.. if it is worth buying ..it is worth 1k for both vise and anvil?? i need a post leg vise too,, i have to dig it up ..lol!!

my sister was attacked by the neighbor's german shepard when she was around 4 yrs old.. i saw it happen and ran for help.. i was 8 .. the dog was old and they thought she probably hurt him when she climbed on him .. he was not a mean dog.. she loves german shepherd and has had them for yrs.. lol!! doesn't remember a thing.. i on the other hand can can't stand to be around them.. i am always uneasy when i see her with the dogs to this day... i know it is illogical.. i will not let her bring them when she visits.. i love dogs.. just not german shepard's..

is the book still available ?? i would love to read it!! i use ball peens for rivets and tiny cut tack on my old saddles i do not have any issues hitting either rivets are tacks but the do then to rotate so i have been thinking about a fix for a while and talking to y'all made me decide to try something while i have time between saddles,,

wood is easy.. i work in all kinds.. the saddles are usually european beech, poplar or oak.. depending on country and time period .. the beech is hard to work with but it is what the old english trees are made from.. i love hand working local white oak.. my brother cuts me quarter sawn lumber ,, so nice!! i use it on the american saddle trees,, my hay rake has a crape myrtle handle.. my chisel mallet is sycamore,, lol!! my saddle racks are cedar .. i have some pecan air drying now,,, i might go get a piece of osage orange.. i have one on the edge of the slope the south pasture, i have not worked with it much,, my brother rex, makes long bows for bear hunting.. he has some air drying but has a wood kiln too.. he just kiln dried enough white oak to floor his new house in it.. all the wood cut from his farm... he used uses osage orange in his bows.. layers it with other woods charles, that bit of info stating finger tip just about meeting the palm is great.. thanks!!!

i like a tapered handle but not slab sided. the bulb would be fun to make,,, i tried tapes and leather , i do not like the feel i work in wood a lot more than metal... i can add wood with inlays and dowels,, making it "pretty" as well as more comfortable i live in an area with all kinds of wood available right out my door.. i have dozens of oak burl off a 200 yr old white oak right now.. might see what that does, lol!! i can't see any disadvantage in adding wood , since my hammers are so light .. replacing the handles is always a good choice.. lol!! i just seem to always take the detours when given a choice.. hehehe.
