  1. I see that you have gotten your location in your profile. How is the coal forge repair coming along?
  2. A 2mm "ball bearing" is smaller than what we call a bb here, quite small.
  3. No, you are not being picked on. It is often recommended to put your location in your profile, so that others can see where you are from when you ask for help or advice. They could be near to you, or point you towards some help near your location. You have only NZ in your profile but you specifically mentioned ChristChurch in your post. No one will know (or bother) to look through all your posts to see more specifically where you are located.
  4. You mentioned heat treating just the edge, that is differential heat treating, so you know what to look up. If you did not already. You could also maybe look into pack carburizing to impart some hardness.
  5. Nice feature to mouse over the user name to see last log in and such.
  6. Hi all. United States Navy, '85-'89 active duty. Reserves for about another 6. Left as OS1/E-6. Stationed on the Sixth Fleet Flagship, USS Belknap from "86-'89. My wife bought me an Anvil Shaped Object a few years ago, haha. She meant well. And Joe Dirt, many here ask that you put your location in your profile.
  7. What I understood from the OP's posts is that they are not expecting to get a functional knife...yet. They want to practice the technique on some inexpensive steel , so as not to drop a lot of coin in refining that technique. I can totally see doing so, I am not wealthy either.
  8. Thank you for the heads up, I had not made my way there yet, obviously.
  9. Hi everyone. I just joined, this is my first post here. I know jack about jack but I have been around for a little while in various industries. I program industrial robots these days, btw. About re-hardening the anvil face, I am not going to say this would be easy, but perhaps more practical. But if you could get your hands on a sizable enough induction heater you could heat just the work face without heating up the entire thing such that handling it safely is another issue in itself. Induction heat the face to the right depth, then quench. Just putting in my two cents, now i am cents less. Any of you fine folks ever messed with induction heating or I committing blasphemy right now and about to be banned forever?
