My Son and Heir suggested we should retain the bark as long as possible so today I finished the top band...The Red Gum bark varies fron 3/4" to 2" thick so had to do some smoothing out to the vertical to use a 4" wide 14# gal. band...Will also allow Brkts,Hooks,Pins etc to hang /rest from.My neighbour has a bobcat to roll and prop for the Bott. band...Cheers.

Howdy to All...I'm aware that some don't like painted Anvils...This is My 1st Anvil and I needed the learning curve...So I'm sharing the journey 1-Bare 2-Masked off 3 & 4-Prime Etch 5-Paint 6 & 7-Paint Job.

After My working life as a Ventilation Design and Construction Engineer,I had a Mate ask could I help him out....This was it...This is a very Sad story.As Sad as the story is true.I was working Casual for a mate (now deceased) who bought household Lots....Deceased Estates-Separations-Moving-Down Sizing....He was interested in Furniture-Jewellery-Collectables-Cars and so on...In terms of his business Grandads tools in the shed were useless time wasters...The Metal Merchant would not take anything with wood on it,so it would be separated into a skip and then plain metal into another skip for the Metal Merchant-He now has a worker off other duties and 2 skips taking up room in the yard...To employ someone to remove the wood to add the tools to the metal skip went like this-Wages+Insurance+Taxes/Duties/Charges+Sick leave+Holiday Pay+Overtime-what he gets from the Metal Merchant=the tip fee is cheaper...Grandads tools go to landfill....Taking the plain steel away simply becomes time wasting..He gets his workers back,his yard space back...The more I took away the more Tip space he had available.So all this Vintage gear Followed me home-Several Tons of it.All I had to do was clean it up and that's what I'm doing in My Retirement.The stuff I've seen go to lasndfill is Frightening....These Pics are a minuscule amount but good cross section of what I have....But the bottom line is This is a Sad Story.

Hullo to all,as I delve into Blacksmithing this is my Anvil setup...A 224lb Australian BK mounted on a 200lb Australian Red Gum Stump...I'm in the early stages of setup...Time will tell...Be careful with the CV going on.

Thanks aaamax,doing what I can...Linseed oil all wood first (Linseed will stain metal if allowed to dry off)...Wire brush-sump oil and low heat...Cheers. picker77, pegged mine dead center..But in the queue...but that Pic of yours is like Machine Heaven in the Driveway...Cheers Mate.

Aussies will find this interesting.As I delve into Blacksmithing I will be setting up as to be able to continue/use the gear for Sheetmetal Work.This Pic is My 40 year old working set of Hammers...The Handles hand Hewn from Australian Mountain Tea-Tree from the snowline above Marysville,Victoria...(remembering MARYSVILLE was Raised to the ground in the Black Saturday Fires).. Set with lead wedges they have been incomparable to any Hammer I have picked up...Will be interesting for me as to there performance on the heavier Blacksmith Gear...Cheers Peter.
