  1. Twins ? Regarding the Bratwurst. your all welcome to taste. Let me know. Another identity -added to your multible personality welcome to my table.
  2. And not a ordinary sausage, but the original 'Thuringer Rostbratwurst'
  3. B.t.w. take the effort and visited jlpservicesinc profile and picture gallery. Incredible nice hinges and latches. Jealous of the ones of you, can make a living of blacksmith occupation (for me impossible after a broken neck caused by a diving incident). Also have seen we are at the same age (’68 gers’ =a good year). Like the scars and painted nails on your hands to. Looks familiar to me when I have to join a top management meeting during my audits (which means the scares, broken nails and sotted hands, accept the painting). Glad about the feedback and making part of this incredible community. JHCC- after decades of smiting I’m just now busy with decent gas forges, good springer fullers and the first attempts of Damascus, so no worry about anything, it’s just nice to learn every day (with credits to the one surround us)
  4. Hi Frosty, we’ve got the same taste. You will find the garlic butter as well on the right corner at the teak table. Regarding the ketchup of Lisa ‘she is is/was young ……. and need the ……. Ketchup’
  5. Addendum to the already posted empty BBQ, here -the ‘full Mounty’ green salad with ‘Lisa made’ dressing, filled sweet potatoes, roasted tomato’s & paprika + fresh bread & herb sour cream. Accompanied with some chicken, sirloin, spare ribs and of course German bratwurst. First seared and then ‘Quenched’ with beer. Just a typical mid-European bbq. However still have the desire of a ripe T-bone sometimes wich is very expensive right here.
  6. Absolutely agree JLP, after our good deeds it’s time to enlighten the UFO-BBQ . Self-build with second support ring to avoid any wiggle-wiggle at all. And then the food is GOOD.
  7. Was looking for this word 'flexing' means 'wiggel-wiggel' ? with the top load.
  8. JHCC, absolutely sure this will become a great forge!!!!, knowing your creativity and skills. Only tried to point out the huge weight and static after assembling based on my own not always successfully attempts regarding dealing with weights. Have a nice day, evening, morning. Cheers, Hans
  9. JHCC,nice progress with the forge project congrats, hope you can fix the leaks and they stay tight ones the forge heat up. Just made some exercice and count together all the weight you want to put on/in the forge stand after looking to his legs. So if I count the 14 gallons of water in the tank that’s 117lbs liquid, plus the (I guess) 20 gallons mud/soil/clay volume in the JABOD shell with a weight of approximately 330lbs. I come out with a total weight of ca. 450lbs for the whole construction behalves of its own weight (60-85lbs?) and all the things you want to attach (tongs, hammers, work pieces)?? After my humble experience, I advise to reinforce the sheet metal shell with some ribs and give the stand stronger reinforced legs with wide foot plates, stags or knot plates . But maybe I made a simple counting mistake and it’s not big (heavy) deal at all. Your sincerely, Hans
  10. Gents, nice sculptures like the bird and the insects as well.
  11. Used the plasma cutter to made a name plate and logo for the facade of house. After cutting I realised that the stainless steel material (2mm) wasn’t any strong and thick enough to weld spacers behind it. Give it a rough grind job and screwed it against the shop door. Will make another one bigger and thicker for the frontage. Next project is also a marker punch with my own blacksmith sign. Looking for a simple design to applicate to the punch head. Don’t have the possibility to use some kind of CNC or spark erosion. Think about to use the ‘tumulus motives’ on the punch and try to work at least them out from 13ChroMo with grinder and Dremel. Any suggestions, tips or sponsoring are more than welcome Cheers, Hans
  12. Hi Gents, a ride with the Lambretta accompanied from Lisa, trough acres of orchard in full blossom made me feel ‘triangular’. I create a new mailbox stand how fits by the already made plant stand and garden bench. Guys the world is beautiful. Cheers, Hans
  13. Now it me, how smells some troll, after this only post out of the blue referring to nothing and from an anonymous poster???
  14. Hi everybody, get infected with the Daswulf illness. Ordered this 77 lbs ASO yesterday at ‘Westfalia’ (a well-known German tool shop) after looking for a long time after it (small, affordable anvil) on the Dutch and Belgium CL. Hope to use them together with a fancy wooden anvil stand and a (to build) mobile solid fuel forge at fair’s and social projects. Curious about the rebound and how it’s work on a tiny hump of cast-iron ASO. According to the reputation of Westfalia I expect at least some workable results. Want to put all the stuff in the trunk of my station car. Which means ASO, stand, foldable ‘hair dryer brake drum forge’ a bag of coal, some hammers, fullers & tongs and pre-cut material (S-hooks, fire pokes, bells) If it didn’t work out I can still visit Das’s backyard to do a ‘trailer jacking’ Keep you informed. Cheers, Hans
  15. Gents thanks for your kind reply and the warm words. I will see Evi (his daughter) soon after all, she works as an consultant on quality assurance and work safety at many company’s I have to audit at the time (it’s a small world in Belgium after all). Already offer my help to handle/assist on some property items of Guy’s belongings abroad. Will see how far I can helpful after all. Cheers, Hans
  16. Today I did nothing in the shop. Went to a funeral of my mentor-father how join & support me to become a good auditor. Guy was only 64 and ready to go retired in 2 month. Hi died on a heart attack while staying with his wife in his holiday house in Germany. I was the first of the company his wife and daughter called by phone because of nobody else of the company was reachable during the Easter holidays. Was able to give them from the distance some useful tips about the insurance company and the costs about repatriation by air. His daughter is pregnant with his second grandchild hi will never see (like Diana my wife who was pregnant with Lisa as her mother died – Lisa is named after her Liselotte) him/her grow up. For me it was a very emotional church service because of the witness to see suffering his wife and family so much. So my prayers and thought are with them and I realised ones more the need to enjoy every day. Cheers, Hans
  17. From left over cut chrome/molybdenum mineral crusher thee, to rough forged square blank to ‘pseudo Japanese’ ballpeen hammer. Added a self-made handle of quarter sawn beech and finished the whole tool with double boiled linseed oil. Will use the hammer to hammer out leafs and rose buttons. The tool will also be one of the example to the future workshop students to forge their own equipment.
  18. Frosty, Glenn, Thanks for advice and pictures. Will use them soon. Have a nice day. Cheers, Hans
  19. I hope this has to be the future back rest and not the part to sit on Thanks for the tip Frosty, next time you clean you solid fuel forge please take some pictures. I dont know exactly where to place. Usualy I get rith of the ember nests though the ash gate. Must be the bad antracite from the DIY-shop. Das, envy you about this nice mobile work shop and the trailer. Just bussy to make or collect them on the right sizes. In my case not so much to make a living but more to join social projects.
  20. Very well done. The ‘Mercedes’ between the anvil stands! What’s the wood (American oak?) and the moisture’s of it to avoid further cracking you already cover well with the steel banding.
  21. Got a nasty ember nest in the air/ash camber of the solid forge during forging some ball peen hammers. Ruin the nozzle regulator and linkage. Made a new linkage and butter up the nozzle with cast iron stick welding. Happy to fix it instead to spend 500 bucks for a new hearth sole.
  22. Thanks Aus, for the reply -hope you find a solution (right gas bottle) soon. Hope to see many nice scrap sculpture from you in the future to. Ones I have time I will scan some old fotos of scrap sculptures i made in the past, to share. B.t.w. I spend about 45 euros on a 20ltr CO2/argon mix here in Belgium. Wish you a nice weekend or what rests of it (+10h) Kind regards, Hans Hi Bubba, thanks 'soul mate' in welding, -my door and guest room are always open to all Australian or Canadian (and even North American) blacksmith brothers Have some good friends from Winnipeg/Manitoba and hope to visit them some day. Lisa my daughter is also a big fan of Canada and hope to spend some time there as o pair or student. Thanks for this conversation and useful 'sparring' about welding stuff. Cheers, Hans
